Over the past few days, there were quite a few smartphone launches. First, the OPPO Reno was announced for RM1999 in Malaysia (a bit expensive, tbh), then came along the ASUS ZenFone 6 with a rather odd Flipping Camera in Valencia starting from ~RM2328, the OnePlus 7 Pro was also launched in Malaysia from RM2999 (no longer the flagship killer, I suppose) and finally, the HONOR 20 series was revealed in London with an affordable price of RM1699 for us. Sweet.

What a hectic week, as we mentioned from our previous Newsbytes, there were several new smartphones launches over the past two weeks and the biggest highlight is obviously the Huawei P30 Series, which has a crazy zoom in feature that can go up to 50x with the P30 Pro, whereas the P30 can go up to 30x. If you're a big fan of Maxis, chances are that you may have heard about Maxis eKelas programme. Well, just today (23 November 2018) the telco company has just launched a new eCikgu feature for the eKelas portal. In conjunction with the closing ceremony of the eKelas Holiday Camp 2018, Yang Berhormat Tuan Eddin Syazlee Shith, Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia, who launched eCikgu was present at the event at Menara Maxis today.

Maxis eKelas celebrated their high achieving eKelas students with Anugerah Gemilang eKelas that includes cash contributions to their National Education Savings Scheme as well as a school starter pack. Out of these, 11 students showed improvements in their English, Science and Mathematics for an RM1200 cash contribution while another 8 who did well in two of the subjects above got RM600 contributed to their National Education Savings Scheme accounts.

Did you know? Maxis is having this community outreach programme called eKelas and they just did it last Sunday in Putrajaya. The eKelas Carnival on that day attracted more than 700 attendees, teaching them digital learning to every participant comprising of students and parents.

Maxis have officially launched their eKelas programme with the aim of extending it to the 118 Pusat Internet 1Malaysia under their care (there are actually 730 such centres). Eventually, they hope to reach out to 100000 students in rural communities over the next five years. Granted, the eKelas programme has already been live as a pilot programme since September 2015, but Maxis are looking to expand their efforts to improve Science, Mathematics and English for form 1, 2 and 3 students.
