Device manufacturers often reveal new products rather unintentionally, especially when they're trying to promote something else. This seems to have happened recently with the upcoming Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and also a still unnamed Sony Android Wear smartwatch. Neither of them have been announced yet and we still don't know details about tech specs and features, but it appears that both will be water resistant enough to bring to the pool. While there are no exact Malaysia release dates, the upcoming IFA 2014 event could be a great place to introduce them so we expect both to appear in the next few weeks.

Recently, reports have appeared about Samsung Galaxy Tab S tablets that supposedly overheated so much that the back cover warped making an impression or dent on the back. According to Samsung, their new Samsung Galaxy Tab S tablets are not overheating, rather these back covers that warp are the few defective units. Any user who has such a warped back cover can contact Samsung for a replacement where they will probably replace the cover and not the tablet.

The third Huawei flagship store in Malaysia has recently been opened in the KLCC Twin Towers. The store is located at Lot 316A on the Third Floor and should give users the chance to try out the latest Huawei devices like the Huawei Ascend P7 and Huawei MediaPad X1. In conjunction with this opening, Huawei Malaysia are holding the Twin Tower, Twin Promotion we reported on earlier. The first 100 Twins, Triplets or Quadruplets who purchase a Huawei Ascend P7, Huawei X1 7.0, Huawei Ascend G6 or Huawei Ascend G750 from the store, from 16 July 2014 to 20 July 2014, are entitled to a “buy 1 free 1 or buy 1 free 2” promotion". Here's what Huawei Malaysia had to say about it:
“At Huawei, we strongly believe that affordability and brand experience should not be mutually exclusive. Our flagship stores personify this belief. We are very excited to be one of the first Chinese high-tech companies to open a store in KLCC, a renowned landmark in Malaysia. When we first started to sell our own branded handsets two years ago, Huawei is unknown to most of the consumers. Thanks to the support from our customers, high quality of our phones and the team’s dedication, our business has changed significantly. Today we are very proud to reach the milestone to open our own flagship store in Suria KLCC. With more points of sale, a stronger network, and many more devices, it has been a truly exciting journey. Today’s event is an indication of how far we have come and our commitment to keep delivering in Malaysia.” Gary Xu, Country Director for Huawei Consumer Business Group in Malaysia

We reported earlier on rumours that OPPO was currently working on an OPPO N1 mini smartphone, complete with rotateable hinge, just like the main OPPO N1 smartphone. Apparently, this is almost confirmed as it has appeared at the FCC in the US complete with tech specs and features. True to earlier rumours, the OPPO N1 mini offers a slightly smaller 5-inch display with 720 x 1280 pixel resolution as opposed to the 5.9-inch Full HD 1080p display on the OPPO N1. Other downgrades include a smaller 2140 mAh battery but thankfully, it appears that the OPPO N1 mini will offer the same 13MP camera sensor on a rotateable swing as before. The only difference for the camera is the dual-LED flash which is now just one LED. We can't confirm it yet but it also looks like it won't have the O-touch rear touchpad and the backside looks to be shiny plastic instead of ceramic like before. Other notable tech specs includes 4G LTE support, which was missing in the original OPPO N1. No Malaysia pricing or release dates just yet but stay tuned for more information.

The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 continued the large but budget smartphone trend when it was released but fearing that the price for it may have been a bit too high, Samsung quickly came out with the Samsung Galaxy Grand Lite. Now, the Galaxy Grand Lite has yet to be officially announced, and is expected to be revealed at MWC 2014, but it has already passed the FCC in the US. This basically confirms it's existance along with it's model number which will be the GT-I9060. Unfortunately, the FCC isn't as revealing as Tenaa in China with the only other tech specs to be revealed being a 2100 mAh battery and the ability to connect via WiFi and Bluetooth.

While being a major supplier of telecommunications equipment and products in the US, Huawei has typically been treated with mistrust by the US government. Allegations of cyberspying and legal blocks have prompted Ren Zhengfei, Huawei CEO to say that Huawei would exit the US market. US officials claim that Huewei could be working with the Chinese government to provide hardware based backdoors or hidden surveilance inside their telecommunication devices but this is a claim which Huawei has strongly denied. William Plummer, Huawei VP says that the investigations have not turned up any solid proof. For now, the Huawei exit looks to be mainly on their telecommunications equipment side of the business while Huawei mobile phones will likely continue to be sold in the US.
