The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is the latest and greatest phablet in Samsung's pioneering phablet range, but if rumours are true, we may soon see some less premium versions coming in 2014. Supposedly due for announcement at MWC 2014 which happens between 24 and 27 February 2014, the rumours indicate that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite or SM-N7505 may come in 2 versions, one with a 5.49-inch display and a 5.7-inch display. Both versions will use LCD screens instead of Super AMOLED which could mean that they are cheaper or have lower resolutions. Other tech specs include an 8MP rear camera and a standard plastic back cover instead of the current artificial leather back cover. These downgrades will allow the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Lite to be priced at a lower price point. In related news, another Samsung Lite product rumoured to appear at the MWC 2014 is the Samsung Galaxy Grand Lite or GT-I9060 which offers a similar 5-inch display, 1.2gHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB storage and 5MP rear camera. No specific pricing or Malaysia release dates were available at the time but both Lite products should be more affordable than their more premium versions.

It seems that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 may soon get some new colour options. This time around they are appearing first at Samsung Argentina where the new colours were revealed as red and rose gold. The red colour option will be available within the first week of January 2014 while the rose gold colour option will be available in Argentina in week 3 of January 2014. Samsung will then make both colour options available globally and we should then see these options available in Malaysia sometime in or after week 4 of January 2014. Malaysia pricing should be more or less the same. Check out the pics in this article for yourself.

While many people complain that their smartphone or phablet doesn't have big enough batteries, the solutions available to them are mostly external through powerbanks or additional power covers with built-in batteries. Samsung Galaxy Note 3 owners have another option thanks to Mugen, which is to replace the existing 3200 mAh battery with a 6500 mAh battery. The new Mugen HLI-N9005XL battery is a bit thicker than the standard 3200 mAh Samsung battery but Mugen solves this by adding on a custom fit back cover. This also means that if you use the Mugen battery and cover, your Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is going to be slightly thicker than the standard 8.3mm. While we can't confirm it, the custom Mugen backside also looks to be completely hard shell plastic and not the plastic faux leather of the standard Samsung Galaxy Note 3. The benefits could be well worth it though as you get more than double the operating life for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for about 5 days to a week depending on usage. No other tech specs were available but we do know that it will be available in black or white and priced at $98.50 (RM315). Again, no specific Malaysia release dates but it should ship to the US and other markets from 6 December 2013.

While the previous Samsung Galaxy Note 3 video ad didn't really help sell the phablet with it's rather weird puppetry, Samsung have come out with another promotional video that shows off the features of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 along with some mention of the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch, this time through a stop-motion pop-up book. We think that it is quite creative and helps highlight features like Air Command, the new S Pen, and all of the Air Command functions such as Scrapbook and S Finder. Check out the video for yourself in the article.

Just like previous Samsung phones, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 gets a dual-SIM version of it's own as Samsung recently made the launch for this version official. While Malaysia has yet to get the official announcement or Malaysia release date, the dual-SIM Note 3 has already been revealed in China. This China version is however not carrier locked and should work anywhere in the world (which means you could probably see some local sellers with the dual-SIM Note 3 quite soon). Like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 N9005, the dual-SIM version uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset which means that it should feature LTE capabilities along with whatever tech specs that the N9005 has. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Dual-SIM is currently priced at €735 (RM3758) but we're pretty sure that the actual Malaysia pricing will be much lower than that.

While Malaysia only has the one Snapdragon 800 powered Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phablet, Samsung actually came out with two versions. One was powered by the 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset and processor while the other is running the 1.9GHz Samsung Exynos 5 Octa. Both managed to breach the 34000 limit on AnTuTu. Surprisingly, while the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 powered N9005 beat out the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa powered N9000, this was mainly due to the better graphics performance of the Adreno 330 GPU compared to the Mali GPU. In terms of multi-tasking and other processing tests, the Samsung Exynos 5 Octa did surprisingly better. Check out the video in the article for more information.

As the phablet series that started it all, the Samsung Galaxy Note series of smartphones is probably best known for it's ability to take notes and provide a bigger screen. However, there are now many smartphones or phablets with much bigger screens than the Samsung Galaxy Note, so why should you get the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 apart from all these other phablets? Reports have come out saying that certain Samsung executives have noted that they may introduce a curved display smartphone in October. This probably means that it is finally time for the consumer level use of Samsung's Youm flexible display technology. The Youm, which was shown off at the CES 2013 is an OLED display that isn't made of glass which brings a number of advantages including durability and better energy efficiency. Since the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 remains the most well-known Samsung device at the moment, the likelihood of a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 version with a curved Youm OLED display is very high. Many rumours are indicating that we may see such a device called the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Active in October 2013 with tech specs and features probably similar to the Note 3 but with a waterproof chassis, although we still don't know anything about Malaysia release dates and pricing. With the only other major mobile device flexible display maker being LG and Samsung and LG recently coming to a mutual understanding it seems very likely that Samsung may reach another mobile device world's first very soon.
