To commemorate Malaysia’s 66th Independence Day, Astro rewards its customers with a new kid-friendly feature and 2 new channels. These channels include #DemiNegaraku (available from 20 August to 17 September) and #Ultraman (available from 20 August to 30 September). That said, what should you know about these channels and features?

Astro is getting stricter with its distribution rights and copyrights. Today, a salesperson was charged and fined RM20000 by the Ampang Session Court. According to the court, Leong Wei Xiang was guilty of selling TV boxes pre-loaded with unauthorised Astro content under Section 43AA (2) of the Copyright Act 1987.

We have written a few news about this before and it happened again. Just last Friday, the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court fined an individual, Tiew Ai Teng, 38, RM20,000 or 2 months imprisonment for selling TV boxes pre-loaded with unauthorised Astro content under Section 43AA of the Copyright Act 1987.

Today, Astro Malaysia has joined hands with Celcom Timur (Sabah) Sdn. Bhd. ("CT Sabah") to launch a new high-speed broadband service in Sabah. The partnership aims to bring fast and reliable internet connectivity to approximately 118,000 households across various towns including Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Semporna, Sandakan, and more.

Astro recently announced that you can now use WeTV on the official Astro Ultra Box. Of course, this means that you’ll have to add the WeTV VIP subscription to your current Astro bundle (for an additional RM10.50 a month). It also means that once you’ve done so, you can also watch the various shows via the WeTV mobile app.

Astro is offering new customers a special promotion for its Astro Fibre bundled with Astro TV packs, whereby you can enjoy RM696 in savings over 24 months. This is applicable when consumers sign up for the Astro Fibre 50 Mbps plans plus a Sports or Movies Pack.

Yesterday, two individuals were arrested for selling TV boxes with unauthorised content. They were charged under Section 43AA of the Copyright (Amendment) Act 2022, which is the first case since the amendment took effect in March 2022.
