Back at the end of March, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced a global PlayStation 5 price hike starting in April 2026, including Malaysia. That day has come today, as the company has officially confirmed a new round of price adjustments for its PlayStation hardware, affecting multiple regions in Southeast Asia.

In case you missed it, Sony officially confirmed a new round of price increases for its PlayStation hardware lineup, impacting the PlayStation 5 family and the PlayStation Portal remote player. The changes were announced via the official PlayStation Blog and will take effect globally beginning 2 April 2026.

Sony has officially confirmed that PlayStation 5 shipments have reached 80.3 million units worldwide as of 30 June 2025.

In conjunction with its 30th anniversary last December, Sony added the classic themes of the PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 consoles to the PlayStation 5. This feature was quite popular but was only offered for a limited time, and Sony deactivated it after a few months. Yesterday, the latest update of the PlayStation 5 was released, and now all the classic themes can be activated by owners permanently.

Sony published a financial report for the period between October and December 2024 which showed that 75 million PlayStation 5 consoles have been sold since it was launched in 2020. Last quarter, 9.5 million PS5 units were sold which was the highest in a quarter since its launch. So, what should you know about it?

As the PlayStation 5 Pro launches tomorrow in Malaysia, Sony has listed over 50 video games that will get an enhancement for the new gaming console. On top of that, the internal tech specs have also been revealed by Digital Foundry.
