Xiaomi recently teased that there would be a drone product coming from them soon and they've just revealed the teaser image. Set for an official reveal tomorrow on 25 May 2016, the Xiaomi Mi Drone looks to be a quadrocopter or similar drone like device with a built-in camera.
It looks like it could also come with it's own dedicated remote control but knowing Xiaomi's usual trend of making their devices "smart", we wouldn't be surprised if you could access and even control the Mi Drone from your smartphone. No Malaysia release dates or pricing details but we expect the Mi Drone to arrive on our shores via third-party sellers. Stay tuned till tomorrow for the official reveal.

Apart from the usual smartphones, tablets and cameras, another fairly interesting CES 2016 find came with the EHANG 184, the world's first Autonomous Aerial Vehicle (AAV). EHANG usually make quadrocopter drones, and the EHANG 184 is a giant quadrocopter (with 8 motors) that can carry a person (not more than 220 lbs).
In addition, the EHANG 184 flies itself, as it has an onboard autonomous system that lets you select a route with just a tap of the touchscreen. We're not certain how smart the system is though because if you select to land on an uneven mountaintop you may likely have a very big crash and fall but according to EHANG they've focused on absolute safety for the 184.

UPS has also announced that they are looking into using unmanned drones for delivery as well. However they have not said how their drones will look like, how they would use them and what range their drones would fly. The only official comment from UPS was quoted as:
"the commercial use of drones is an interesting technology and we'll continue to evaluate it."
It makes more sense that a courier delivery and logistics company like UPS would look into unmanned delivery drones than Amazon, but again there comes the issue of airspace regulations and permissions. No news when we may see UPS delivery drones in Malaysia but since we do have an official UPS presence here, it seems more likely that we'll see UPS delivery drones here first before Amazon's.

As one of the biggest online sellers of stuff it is perfectly understandable that Amazon need to also deliver. While the traditional method is to call the DHL guy or some other courier service, Amazon may soon make deliveries through the air with automatic octa-copter drones. This drone based system will be called Amazon Prime Air and deliver packages of up to 2.2kg and can make deliveries within a 16km radius from the package center. Amazon says the drones can make the delivery in about 30 minutes or so. Amazon goes on to show off how this would work in a video and say that right now they are just going through airspace regulations and confirmations. Check out the article to see what Jeff Bezos, Amazon CEO had to say about it.

In what seems like just the tip of the iceberg, MAYA Design recently held a demo of their MakerSwarm platform which they used to create a smartwatch app that allowed them to control the aforementioned RC drones. What is remarkable here is that the MakerSwarm that enabled this is a very easy to use platform. MAYA Design hope it will lower the bar in terms of app creation difficulty. The platform uses relationships to trigger actions or events and from the demo pretty much works like a match the line exercise.
