Just when you thought we didn't need another selfie smartphone in the market right after the OPPO F1s, Vivo decided to drop another one on us - the Vivo V5 coming in full frontal attack with a 20MP front camera. Actually, the V5 is the latest phone marketed as an all-purpose selfie phone, just after the F1s and the Gionee S6s (which is only available in China and India). Last week was crazy busy as Honor started it with a bang and their officially announced Honor Note 8 and Honor 5 Play. Samsung subsequently skipped numbers and officially announced the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 with their new Gear VR. ASUS soon followed suit with their full range of ASUS ZenFone 3, ASUS ZenFone 3 Ultra, ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe, ASUS ZenFone 3 Max and ASUS ZenFone 3 Laser smartphones along with their ASUS ZenBook 3, ASUS Transformer 3 and ASUS Transformer 3 Pro, all for Malaysia.

According to the latest Internation Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, vivo has entered the world's top 5 smartphones manufacturer, thanks to their steady presence in Malaysia along with the combined with the sales of vivo V3Max, which is their latest smartphone sporting 4GB RAM, dual-engine fast charging, HiFi (High Fidelity) sound technology, and a quick 0.2 second fingerprint unlocking.

There’s a whole bunch of metal midrange smartphones these days packing in a metal unibody, fingerprint sensor and more or less midrange tech specs and the vivo V3Max appears to be one of them. To be perfectly honest, I’m not particularly a fan of vivo smartphones, having already reviewed another metal Vivo, but this time around the V3Max pleasantly surprised me with it’s well polished design and flagship-level performance. This week there wasn't any major event or device that stood out in tech, but we did see notable new entries with the announcement of the Samsung Galaxy C5 and C7 smartphones while Xiaomi launched their affordable 4K video recording Mi Drone. Pebble announced some new wearables and the rumours were rife as usual but the more notable one included that the honor 5C could be coming to Malaysia next month while something better and more beautiful would be coming from honor in Q3.

Go check out the nearest vivo outlets to make your pre-order and get a mystery gift worth RM199 and a leather phone case (while stocks last). The V3Max offers a number of premium tech specs and features including a Snapdragon 652 processor, 4GB RAM, 32GB storage, a rear fingerprint sensor and 5.5-inch full HD display. No Malaysia pricing details yet, but it recently went on sale in India for RM1409 so here's hoping to a price tag below that.
