Just weeks ago, we reported that ASUS would pause new smartphone launches for 2026. Although there was no official word from the company, ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih has come forward and confirmed the new direction. ASUS is moving its focus away from expanding its smartphone lineup to concentrate on artificial intelligence–driven innovation.

At CES 2026, ASUS unveiled its latest “Always Incredible” lineup under the Ubiquitous AI and Incredible Possibilities vision. ASUS’ AI roadmap spans seven key areas, including Workspace AI, Creator AI, and Everyday AI, which were the main focus at CES. According to ASUS Co-CEO Samson Hu, the goal is to make AI more accessible and practical by simplifying work, inspiring creativity, and improving daily life.

What was previously teased has become a reality. Today, ASUS Republic of Gamers officially announced the ROG XREAL R1, the world’s first gaming glasses to feature a 240Hz micro-OLED Full HD display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Developed in partnership with XREAL, the ROG XREAL R1 transforms ROG performance into a spatial display that can be worn anywhere.

It may be strange to read this news, but according to industry reporting, ASUS officially communicated with Taiwanese mobile distributors that it will not introduce any new smartphone models in 2026. Local retailers told Digitimes Asia that ASUS handset supply through official channels was drying up and that the company’s smartphone division would effectively operate only through 31 December 2025 before halting new product releases.

News of RAM shortages has been around for months, with many companies warning consumers to expect rising prices. This is bad news for many companies, as it means fewer people would be willing to buy new products. The good news is that ASUS has plans to help.

Counterpoint Research recently revealed a rise of 8.1% year-on-year due to the end of support for Microsoft Windows 10.
