The government has expressed its intention to implement a barrier-free toll system on various highways in the next few years. In parallel, the Ministry of Works has reportedly opened bids for the barrier-free toll system, and around six parties have submitted bids to develop it.

Malaysia is planning to roll out the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll system by 2027, with the estimated project cost reaching around RM3000000000.

The Government today announced a special 50% toll discount for highway travel on 28 and 29 March in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. In a press conference in Melaka today, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that the initiative involves an estimated RM19.69 million, which will be used to compensate the affected highway concessionaires.

Previously, we shared how the Federal Government will no longer offer free tolls during festive seasons starting this year, with a more targeted approach to be implemented in its place. Accordingly, the recent Chinese New Year celebration saw a 50% toll discount for travellers, and the Works Ministry has confirmed that this would be implemented for other festive seasons in 2025.

In conjunction with the 2025 Chinese New Year festive season, the Malaysian government has agreed to provide a 50% toll discount from the normal rate. This will apply to all Class 1 (private) vehicles on 27 and 28 January 2025.

The government today announced the provision of free tolls for two days in conjunction with Deepavali Day 2024, namely on 29 and 30 October 2024. Free tolls will be provided on all highways starting at 12.01 midnight, 29 October 2024 (Tuesday), until 11.59 night, October 30 (Wednesday).
