Local Government Development Ministry (KPKT) Minister has announced that a total of 1488 residents of the People’s Housing Project (PPR) Taman Bagan Jaya will get free 30Mbps internet access for a 9-month period beginning this February. Its Minister, Nga Kor Ming asserted that this initiative is under the [email protected] programme which will overall benefit 30 PPR projects nationwide.

Terengganu Infrastructure, Public Facilities, Utilities and Technology Committee chairman, Dr Mamad Puteh has announced that the state will have 66 new telecommunications towers operational next year under the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA). Furthermore, the state’s 4G coverage in populated areas are also expected to increase to 97.26 percent by the end of this year.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has revealed that the first phase of the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) initiative will cost approximately RM28 billion. The matter was asserted by its chief operating officer (COO), Datuk Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus, who also revealed that its implementation is currently ongoing since 2020.

Besides YES 5G, Telekom Malaysia (TM) already joined Digital Nasional Bhd's (DNB) 5G single wholesale network a long time ago. Despite that, there were no signs of any 5G package plans yet until today. Although nothing is official yet, a trip to the JENDELA map would say otherwise.

Back in July 2021, a JENDELA map web portal was released in Malaysia for Malaysians to check their internet area coverage. On top of that, they may also submit a report on how each telco's mobile service performs in a particular area. Today, a new JENDELA app is now available on the Google Play and Apple App Store.

Yesterday on 15 April 2021, there was a second quarterly Jendela report by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). While it was a rather long report, sources have pointed out that the 4G LTE and internet network strength are still being criticized over the past few months.

Under the Jendela Initiative, it seems that around 839 locations across 8 Malaysian states will be getting broadband access service via Satellite by October 2021. The locations mentioned comprised mostly of rural areas and Orang Asli settlements that are relatively hard to access and deploy effectively.

We may no longer be able to complain about the lack of 4G coverage in the future. The government is planning to build a national digital network called Jalinan Digital Negara, otherwise known as Jendela, which aims to provide a central 4G mobile broadband network to populated areas.
