The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) has revealed that the 4G network coverage in Sabah’s populated areas has increased to 88.06 per cent. Its Minister, Fahmi Fadzil said that the statistic is as of the third quarter of 2022.

Sabah Assistant Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (KSTI) Datuk Seri Dr Ruddy Awah has announced that the 4G coverage in the state’s populated areas is at 88.06 per cent as of the first quarter of 2022. For comparison, the coverage was at 73.41 per cent in the second quarter of 2020, which is prior to the implementation of the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA).

Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa yesterday revealed that the 4G network coverage in Sabah has now reached 86.9% at its populated areas. This is thanks to the concerted efforts in strengthening broadband service infrastructure in the state, especially through the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA).

Celcom Axiata Bhd (Celcom) in a statement yesterday stressed that it is aiming to expand the coverage and capacity of its 4G LTE service in East Malaysia by the year’s end. The company is aiming for 92 percent coverage in Sarawak and 85 percent in Sabah.

A report yesterday recently revealed that 50 telecommunications towers will be built in Sabah starting from this year. Quoting Roslan Mohamad, Head of the Sabah State Office for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, the report says that each of the communications towers are estimated to cost RM1.7 to RM1.8 million with total costs coming to RM290 million. They are expected to help support 5G telecommunications and improve 4G coverage.

In conjunction with the Malaysia Day Celebrations which is happening on the 16 September 2018, Celcom will be offering residents in Sabah their Celcom Home Fibre and Celcom Business Fibre with up to 50% lower price for speeds up to 100Mbps. All existing Celcom Home Fibre 120, Celcom Home Fibre 150, and Celcom Home Fibre 180 will gradually upgrade towards the 100Mbps by the end of September 2018 at no extra cost.
