You have to agree with us – while today's smartphones are all powerful and full featured, the act of opening up a flip phone is something very classical and classy. Samsung have forged ahead as the leader in flexible display devices with the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge and S6 edge+ but rumours now indicate that we could see a device with a flexible display that can be folded in January 2016. Following Samsung's previous flexible display timeline, 2016 and 2017 should be the year that such devices come to light. In a move which looks to revive the clamshell mobile phone form factor, Samsung are reportedly making a dual-screen clamshell flip phone which they may call the Samsung Galaxy Golden (perhaps in reference to the Golden age of clamshell-type mobile phones?). While it initially appeared as the Samsung Galaxy Folder and looked to be a dead prototype, it seems that the Samsung Galaxy Golden may actually arrive soon, perhaps for the South Korean market first. Tech specs for the Golden now include:
- 1.7GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor
- 2x 3.7-inch AMOLED display (800 x 480 resolution)
- 2GB RAM
- 1820 mAh battery
- Android 4.2.2
