While the iOS site for Malaysia has the operating system still in Coming Soon, Apple have already made their latest iOS 8 update available for download. The update is available to all Apple iPhone 4S and above users, iPad 2 and above users, all iPad mini users and those with a 5th generation iPod Touch. All you need to do is go to Settings > General > Software Updates. The update is almost 1GB but requires some free space (about 5.7GB for the iPhone) to update properly, so be sure to have a good amount of space available on your device. Like all updates be sure to back up all your important stuff and make sure you have enough battery life before you update.

Announced earlier in June 2014, iOS 8 generally was more open to customization, with the ability to change out the standard QuickType keyboard, a more useful Siri and new features like the Health hub app and Family Sharing. While Apple did not release the final version at the Apple iPhone 6 launch event, they did say when it would be released and for what devices. According to Apple, iOS 8 will be available for free download on 17 September 2014. It will be available to users who have an Apple iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5S, iPod touch 5th generation, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad Air, iPad mini and iPad mini with Retina Display. As always, be sure to backup before you download the update, just in case.

Apple recently made several announcements at this year's WWDC 2014 and one of the biggest was that of iOS 8, the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system. Powering your Apple iPhones and iPads, iOS 8 brings a number of innovations to the fore including an improved Health hub app, a more useful Siri, notifications that you can take action on and widgets. Other notable features include the addition of a new predictive and learning QuickType keyboard along with support for third-party keyboards so you can eventually download SwiftKey or other onscreen keyboards if you don't like the new QuickType. Other new features of note include Family Sharing where you can share media with family, better integration with iCloud Drive for more storage on the Internet and Spotlight which works like a combination of the search on Windows 8 and Google Now. Improved Maps and other features round off the new additions.

Konami Digital Entertainment has recently launched PES Manager featuring football game management and realistic matches shown in 3D for Android and iOS devices. Based on World Soccer Collection S, the top grossing soccer game app in Japan, the game offers more than 1500 star player badges with real player pictures from various EU leagues. The objective of the game is to win and collect player badges and then form a unique team from Europe's top football players. Different play styles and skill sets can be assigned while special skills can be activated during the game. While matches are played in 3D, users can change players on the field, formations and other instructions while the game is playing in real-time. Game campaigns and events through the Facebook page and the PES Manager site are expected to come soon after the app launch. The game is free to play but has in-app purchasing for extra features. As far as mobile operating systems go, Android and iOS are two of the top ranking ones but the common misconception is that iOS is more stable than Android. However, a survey done by Crittercism shows that this is not only untrue, but that Android 4.x and above is 2x more stable than iOS 7.1. Crittercism processed more than 30000 request over 1 billion mobile users and the survey is quite extensive, covering complexity, app responsiveness, crash rates and a lot more such as error rates for cloud services. The most notable statistics from the Crittercism survey are listed below:
- iOS 6 crashes 2.5% of the time
- iOS 7 crashes 2.1% of the time
- iOS 7.1 crashes 1.7% of the time
- Android 2.3 crashes 1.7% of the time
- Any Android 4.x (4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4) crashes 0.7% of the time or lower

While there are even quad-SIM smartphones out on the market, few better-known brand names offer anything past dual-SIM. However, Samsung have recently come out with a triple-SIM smartphone called the Samsung Galaxy Star Trios. Going for the low-end to entry-level smartphone market, the Galaxy Star Trios has very similar in terms of tech specs with the Samsung Galaxy Star S5280 with features that include a 1GHz Snapdragon S1 processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB storage, 3.14-inch display with 240 x 320 pixel resolution, 2MP rear camera, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and HSDPA support along with a 1300 mAh battery. The Samsung Galaxy Star Trios should be available in Malaysia soon but is currently being sold in Brazil for $165 (RM549) which is quite high for these tech specs. However, if you are the type who absolutely needs three SIM cards, this shouldn't be an issue.

Apple's iOS 7 operating system has finally become downloadable for everyone with a compatible Apple device. The full list of Apple devices capable of downloading the iOS 7 update include the Apple iPod Touch, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S,iPhone 5, iPad 2, iPad with Retina display (iPad 3 and iPad 4) and iPad mini. However, some devices will get certain features while some others will not. To check what features you'll be getting with your device, check out our device and features chart below. As always when updating something as big as an operating system, always remember to backup all your important data on the device and make sure you have enough space to download and install everything (in this case 3GB of free space is the recommended amount). Make sure you also have a fast connection and a full battery, just in case.

Apple's iOS 7 operating system has been undergoing beta testing for quite some time now. As the Apple OS which will bring multi-tasking and a whole bunch of other updates to Apple users, it is no wonder that many are waiting for it to arrive. In light of that, Apple have announced that the final version of iOS 7 will be released on 18 September 2013. Apart from the aforementioned multi-tasking you can also get other features like new ringtones, different voices for Siri and the fact that it has been optimized for a 64-bit architecture. In addition to this, the entire iWork suite of productivity apps is now free for new Apple devices, which is the equivalent of Microsoft adding on a free Office for every Windows 8 tablet. Apart from the new iPhones, the iOS 7 update will also be made available to the iPhone 4S, iPad mini, iPad 3, iPad 4 and 5th gen iPod Touch. For more information check out the Apple iOS site.

Recently, the SOFTEC Asia 2013 was launched and will be held from 2 September 2013 to 5 September 2013 at Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa. Hosted and sponsored by the Malaysian Software Testing Board (MSTB), this is the first SOFTEC event to go regional and focused on the sharing of knowledge amongst leading software test professionals within the ASEAN region. Following the theme "Test the Walk" the event covered various software testing conferences, talks and discussions along with some announcements. This included a roundtable discussions amongst CIOs or Chief Information Officers within the ASEAN region sharing information, challenges and solutions faced by CIOs in implementing smoothly working IT systems accross borders. The SOFTEC Asia 2013 event was officiated by Yang Berhormat Senator Dato' Seri Abdul Wahid Omar, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department who also launched MSTB's Quality Software Product Certification Scheme.

Too many cooks spoil the broth, but too many leaks spoil the anticipation especially where the supposedly low-cost Apple iPhone 5C is concerned.
