Last week, ZTE dropped a teaser claiming that it will be the first company to unveil a smartphone with an under-display camera. It was confirmed by sources then that the device in question is the ZTE Axon 20 5G. ZTE has now officially announced that the phone will be launched in China on 1 September 2020.

Based on a statement by androidheadlines, it seems that ZTE could be the first smartphone manufacturer to unveil a smartphone to come equipped with an under-display selfie camera. While not much is known in regards to the exact release date of the smartphone, our source did mention that the device was spotted on TENAA with the codename ZTE A2121.

An under-screen front camera concept has been in the works since last year by OPPO and a few brands such as Samsung, vivo, Xiaomi, and Visionox are reportedly working on it too. Despite that, ZTE just made a surprise announcement that they will be the world's first smartphone brand to release an actual under-screen camera phone soon.

For several months now, the tension between the US government and Huawei have not been going anywhere. This of course led to a ban on using Google Mobile Services on their smartphones, but the smartphone brand have been adapting well with their own Huawei Mobile Services (slowly). However, it seems that their fate has been sealed by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as the company along with ZTE are considered national security threats.

Based on a statement by abacusnews.com, it seems that China Telecom, as well as ZTE, could already be working on 6G technology right now which is expected to be commercialized somewhere around 2030. This early start into 6G is likely due to the fact that China wants to have a head start on the competition and have a stronger position in the telecommunications market.

But the brand still sells its smartphones locally and keen eyes have spotted a new device on the official ZTE site (in Chinese) recently, one that's likely the company's flagship for 2020 - the ZTE Axon 10s Pro.

In an apparent U-Turn from US President Donald Trump’s earlier supposed intervention, the US administration has released an early publication of a rule that will ban all new contracts or buying of equipment from Huawei, ZTE and a number of other Chinese companies starting from 13 August 2019. The rule further states that these companies are still allowed to service previous infrastructure (the old US networks in various rural towns) as long as they provide full disclosure but only until August 2021, so it’s not a complete ban, but just one that benefits the US government (how surprising, lol).

So far, in the quest for 100% screen ratio, smartphone brands have gone for pop-up cameras and top sliders, but a new ZTE design indicates that we could soon see a ZTE smartphone with 100% screen ratio AND a side slider with triple front cameras and a Xenon flash. Other rumoured tech specs includes dual rear cameras and 5x optical zoom, support for 5G and since there's no fingerprint sensor anywhere else, it is also assumed that it will have an in-display fingerprint sensor.
